Spreading my wings and transition!

A grand white house framed by trees and flowering bushes

August has proven to be quite the month of transition for me so far, and I’m so excited to see what magic this season brings! I am so excited to share with all of you that as of August 16th, I am officially moving to North Carolina! This process has been unbelievably stressful and grueling, and there’s definitely some fear associated with moving away from the only home I’ve ever really known. But I also know, with everything in me and deep in my bones, that this is absolutely the right move for me.

I’ve been dreaming of spreading my wings beyond Charleston - and beyond South Carolina as a whole - for a while now, and moving in with the love of my life in North Carolina seems like the perfect way to do that. I have dreamed of a love like he and I share my whole life, and now that I have it in my grasp, I know I need to embrace it to its fullest extent. When I first started writing Puddle Stomping Barefoot in My Party Dress, I didn’t actually believe I was worthy of the love I’ve found with my current partner. I dreamed of it, consistently, but dreaming of it and feeling worthy of it are two entirely different things. And while I dreamed of it, I certainly never believed I would find it, even when I did start to believe I was worthy of it. I owe it to myself - every version of myself, including and especially the versions who didn’t feel deserving of this love and who doubted whether or not they would ever find it - to see what magic comes my way by fully embracing and accepting this love and all the transitions that will inevitably come with it.

Moving to North Carolina is the first piece of this magical transition, absolutely. But it doesn’t mean I’ll be gone for good. The Writing Fae, my friends, and my family are all still based in Charleston. I’ll be back, for the community I’ve spent my whole life building in Charleston, and because as much as I love the mountains and hills of North Carolina, I love the beaches of Charleston at least as much.

I’ll be back, Charleston. First for the Writing Fae open mic on August 20th, and as often as possible after that. I just need to spread my wings a little bit too. Don’t forget me. I promise not to forget you.

Charleston will always be at least a little bit home.
